Timber Cabinets to Fresh White

Barbara and Geoff’s kitchen resurfacing project transformed dark timber cabinets into a bright white space, while keeping daily life running smoothly.

This kitchen resurfacing project in the Upper North Shore, shows how updating just the cabinet finish can transform an entire space, without changing the layout or blowing the budget.

Location: St Ives, Upper North Shore, NSW

Clients: Barbara and Geoff

Service: Kitchen cabinet resurfacing

Timeline: 2 days of work + 1 day drying time

Fabulous Layout, Dated Cabinetry

Barbara and Geoff loved their kitchen’s layout, but the timber cabinets felt heavy, dark, and dated. They wanted to make the room feel brighter and more modern, without committing to the cost or hassle of a complete remodel.

The Smart Solution

We recommended spraying the existing timber cabinetry white, to brighten the space.

Resurfacing is an affordable, fast way to get a new look, and it costs around 70% less than replacing the cabinets entirely.

By changing the colour from timber to white, they brought light into the kitchen, achieved the fresh, contemporary feel they wanted, and did it all in just three days.

You might notice the hallway has disappeared in the after photos. We took these pictures at our site visit for a formal quote. The owners let us know they were having the hallway enclosed before the project started, as it took away from the otherwise stunning central kitchen.

Managing Access and Timing

During the resurfacing project, the kitchen as they were used to it, was out of action for three full days. During a kitchen resurfacing project, we do need all personal items removed from the space because while you'll love the new-look cabinetry, your plates and bowls probably won't appreciate it.

We worked with Barbara and Geoff to keep the rest of the home functional, since they were home the whole time. They had access to their fridge, and set up their microwave, coffee machine and blender in another room. While it's a little different to their ordinary, it meant mealtimes were manageable.

They planned takeaway dinners into their budget - who doesn't love a night off cooking? And we think it's a great opportunity to support your local family restaurant while your kitchen's out of action.

Working From Home Concerns

One of the homeowners worked from a home office full time, so keeping the rest of the house comfortable was important.

When possible in kitchen resurfacing projects, we transform the room into a sealed spray booth to contain all dust and fumes. This approach means no disruption to other rooms and minimal impact on anyone working or living in the home during the job.

The Results

The timber-look was refinished in white, instantly brightening the space and giving it the modern style Barbara and Geoff wanted.

They kept the layout they liked, saved thousands compared to a full renovation, and wrapped it all up in just a few days. No stress, no surprises.

And now those floors shine bright in their own right, rather than blending into the sea of timber.

Kitchen Resurfacing is one of our most popular services in Sydney because it delivers such a big change for such a manageable cost.
